Lin was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I am truly saddened by the loss of such a wonderful man.

Dear Friends, When Eric called me this morning with the news of Lin's accident I fell into prayer for his family and for Lin. Eric called me this evening as news of Lin's passing had come to be realized and again I asked for God's hand to comfort my heart as well as all of yours. Lin was a one of a kind person and words cannot describe the shock and saddness I feel. I take great comfort in knowing that Lin is in the presence of God this very day and he with his dad once again too. Please know that you are in my families prayers and I will never forget Lin and I will always hold him dear in my heart. God's Blessings to each of you and the Holy Spirit to comfort us all. I am blessed member of the Europa Sports Family because of the One & Only Big Lin "E" McAteer. My first meeting with Lin, I knew I was in the presence of greatness. I was previously the South East Sales Rep for Labrada Nutrition. With the leadership, resilience, world class personality and passion for people, Lin lead me to build Labrada Nutrition to the exceptional busniess that is still today! I was honored to become a member of Euorpa Sports Products Family on Febuary 1, 2007 as California Field Sales Consultant. Big Lin "E" McAteer is and always my mentor who I learned from and will continue to follow in his philosophy-sincere passion for people and being a person of legendary respect & honor. Big Lin "E" McAteer your life leads me and I will continue to build on your superior foundation and leagacy. Thank you Big Lin "E" McAteer,I love you my brother=StrongSide! I know Big Lin "E" McAteer is with God. Probally assisting at the Pearly Gates assisting to write all the names in God's Book as Big Lin "E" McAteer kept his books in order and exact- this is the Lin "E" Mac Way = "By the Book". Big Lin "E" McAteer you loved & lived which was the result of your success: LIFE IN ABUNDANCE COMES ONLY THROUGH GREAT LOVE There is no force more potent than love. Take away love and your world is a tomb. Your life echoes emptiness without love. With it, your life will vibrate with warmth and meaning. Even during hardship, love will shine through. As you look back upon the events in your life you will find that the moments that stand out, the moments when you have really lived, are the moments when you have done things in a spirit of love. If you have it, you don't need to have anything else, and if you don't have it, it doesn't matter what else you have. Therefore, search for love. Once you have learned to love, you will have learned to live. Love is the most important ingredient to your success. I met Lin several years ago and was immediately impressed, not only by the size of his body, but the size of his heart. He was a great guy who was always willing to help others either in the weight room or in life. He will be missed.

Lin will be so missed. He was a big guy with a big heart. He was always nice to everyone and took time out for everyone as well. He helped me out a lot in the gym with exercise and with nutrition advice. He never seemed bothered by my questions, but was always helpful. I hadn't seen him work out in a few years as I moved, but I don't think I ever saw anyone workout so hard! and how he loved doing it! One time after a workout he drank 2 protein shakes and said, 'that should hold me for a few minutes till I get home and get some real food'. I laughed but realized he was serious!!! I bet heaven will have a lot buffer people with Lin there! We'll miss you buddy

My thoughts go out to the family and friends. Take this time to remember all the joy and carry that forward with you.
Roto - 4/22/2008

I've known Lin and Bray since the days back at Williams High School. I used to see Lin at Winner's Gym all the time...very fond memories of the talks we had and the great advice he gave. I moved to Charlotte back in late 2000 and kept telling myself that I'd look Lin up and call him to get together to catch up...the thing that always stopped me was that I always looked up to Lin as a role model - he really had his act together from the first day I met him...I never felt I amounted to much and kept putting off calling him here in Charlotte, thinking I'd do it once I tied up a few more loose ends in my life. Now I don't know what to say - life is fragile and far too short. This hit close to home in many ways - I lost my brother back in 2000 and found that my friends helped me get through the hardest times...if there's anything you need or just want to talk, I'll be there for you. I can be reached at 704-287-8391 or mikaeldascenzo@hotmail.com .

Lin was my training partner all of last year and is probably one of the top five best friends I have ever had. He was a true friend and he is what is GOOD about bodybuilding. He will be missed and his contributions to this industry are numerous. Lin had no ego and would go out of his way to help people. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lin's family and fiance. Although Lin might not be physically with us anymore, his spirit and contribution to this industry live on. I'll see you on the other side, Big Lin.
Marc Lobliner - 4/22/2008

My condolences and prayers go out to Lin's family. Over the past few years working for Lin, first as a driver then as his assistant, I got to see firsthand how great of a person he was. I truly admired and looked up to him, not only as a mentor but also as one of the nicest people I have ever met anywhere. I would not have received the opportunities here at Europa had it not been for Lin. He was such a special person, and he will remain forever in our thoughts.
Mike Reid - 4/22/2008

Although I did not know Lin personally, he trained everyday with my friend and colleague Marc Lobliner. Marc spoke highly of Lin, not only his training but his person. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Lin was to me & to most other friends & co-workers a role model in the way he did his job and the kind of man he was. Lin was always geniune & modest and always cared about how others were feeling and if he could do anything. Lin will live on in our thoughts always & my prayers go out to his family.
Dan Nelmes - 4/22/2008

I can't even begin to express my deep sorrow and condolences to the McAteer family. He was a great guy with great personality. Lin respected everyone and everything around him. He had the innate ability to raise a persons level of personal expectation and in return we gave him our utmost levels of respect. The world in my opinion has lost a truly remarkable person. I wish the family, friends, and the Europa Sports organization my heart-felt sympathy in this trying time. Lin will be missed.
Khiem Ngo - 4/22/2008

My heart felt condolences and prayers go out to the McAteer family. I have worked with Lin for the past 10 years and he was a wonderful, caring man, co-worker and friend. I am comforted by the fact that I believe that God was in need of someone so kind and so strong. He needed a rock and he found that in Lin. He will be greatly missed.

I really hate to hear this as Lin was a good person in general and also for the industry. He was alwasys so giving and would go the extra mile for his clients and friends. I never saw him without a smile on his face as you could tell the fitness industry was his life. I wish the family and close friends well with healing and know Lin will be looking down on us wanting us to continue reaching our goals with him in spirit!
Lishia Dean - 4/22/2008

Lin, God looked around his garden and found an empty place. He then looked upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put His arm around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. Thank you for being so kind and such a sweet friend. I enjoyed working with you and it was a pleasure to know such a great guy. You made me laugh and always listened when I needed someone to talk to. My heart aches with loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Kim Garhart

I will always have a special place in my heart for Lin, he was bigger than life and was loved by so many people!

We lost a dear friend today. My thoughts and prayers are with Lin's family as well as his extented family at Europa. Lin made an impact in my life as he taught me just how valueable family and friends are in our lives and to take the opportunity to let your loved ones know just how you feel about. I always admired Lins relationship with his family and to this day I am still trying to emulate that type of relationship with my mom & dad.(Lin and I shared an office back in the early years at Europa so I heard all his phone conversations) Thank you for the lessons in life that you taught me (even though you did not realize that you were providing me the foundation to make me a better father and son). The Lord has taken an important person from us today, I am sure that GOD has a place for him in heaven that Lin will be able to do what he does best "just be Lin". I will miss you my friend.. I love you Tom Scarfato

Lin was always such an amazing person, with such a presence. He will be missed!
Bridgett Hayes - 4/22/2008

When Brad Cain called me this morning to tell me about Lin I almost couldn't believe it. I've known Lin for many years and he has always been one of the kindest men I knew. I never saw him without a smile on his face, even at 5am at Golds in Pineville when no one is really smiling. Lin always had a kind word or compliment to share and anyone who knew him was a better person for it. My wife and I used to joke with him about being the gentle giant, and the only thing bigger then him is the loss everyone will feel from his passing. You will be missed my friend but you will never be forgotten. Bill and Elizabeth Prather
Bill Prather - 4/22/2008

I was blessed to have known Lin. He worked out with us at the Pineville Peak in the mornings until his leg problems started. I can honestly say I never once saw him without a smile on his face. I went up to him one day and I said,"Lin, I know you must have the Lord in your heart to have such a big smile on your face every time I see you." He just grinned at me and said, "You know I do." We talked for a few minutes and he told me that he was indeed a Christian but that he didn't like to push his religion on anyone. I told him that his smile was all I needed to know that he was headed in the right direction. I'll miss you Lin. You were indeed one of a kind.
Jeff Mauney - 4/22/2008

Lin was quite possibly the most warm, kind-hearted, genuine man I had ever met. He was always there to lift you up and lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be missed tremendously and will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers go out to the McAteer family as well as his Europa family!
Cisily Frasure - 4/22/2008

What can I say... Heaven's getting a good one! Lin was one of the kindest, most genuine and down to earth guys you would ever meet. He's going to be really missed!!!
Hank Carpenter - 4/22/2008

Me and Lin had 2 relationships. Personal and business. I left a condolence message marking it "personal" because I feel outside of business, it is personal. From a business standpoint, me and all my coworkers at Weider Publications are simply devastated over this. Lin was the epitome of character and integrity and frankly, one of the most quality human beings I've ever come in contact with. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the McAteer family. We love you Lin.
Richard Hart - 4/22/2008

I am still numb from the news. I told Eric Hillman makes you want to call everyone that is dear to you and tell them what they mean to you. He was to so many their "personal" HERO. I love you brother, and I miss you already. TRES
TRES BENETT - 4/22/2008

In the past 8 years of being here at Europa Sports, no one has had a greater impact on my life than Lin. There is probably no one on earth that is as compassionate, thoughtful and humble as him. Lin always went out of his way to say good morning to everyone and ended even the shortest phone call with "have a great day". Most of all, I will always remember the caring love and support that he provided when my mom passed away. To his wife, mother and the rest of his family, my thoughts and prayers are with you...always. Lin, to me, was truly more than just a co-worker but also a very treasured and dear friend. We are all blessed to have had him touch our lives. I hope we all keep his memory alive by what he has given all of us.
Bernice Reddington - 4/22/2008

Lin and I grew up together and have always been close....this past Saturday we were at the NC State Championships supporting another good friend Jeff Cook. Afterwards we met up at Longhorn in Burlington..as usual we spent time discussing family, training, and life. Always in that order...famaily and friends were always priority to Lin. Lin was a beautiful person inside...always full of support, encouragement, and optimism. All his friends and family know how much love and kindness was in his heart. Lin has helped me grow as a person inside and has been a mentor through years of training. I feel like I lost a brother.....and good friend....LIN, you will be missed more than you will ever know. I pray for Lin's family and for God to give them strength through this difficult time. Kyle Michaels

The industry lost a great leader today. Lin was our backbone to the success of our business! Not only did I respect his knowledge, but Lin became my friend. I trusted his advice and always relied on his expertise. Lin, I know you will always laugh when you think about what my 9-year old son, Calvin, said, "Daddy, you don't have big arms like Lin. Now, those are some arms!" Lin, I know this made you laugh the day I told you and wanted you to know the positive impact you made on my entire family. We will miss you Big Guy and you will never be forgotten! Thank you for all that you did for us! The Crocker Family (Steve, Carolyn, Calvin & Catherine)

God gave a blessing to everyone Big Lin came in contact with. He was a true example of the Fruits of the Spirit that we as believers have, but seldom use....Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control. To Lin's family and the Europa Sports family - may you find refuge with the Lord, may he comfort you, give you strength and a peace beyond all understanding as only he can do. Big Lin, you were it...The Real Deal and you will be so deeply deeply missed. God Bless....

As a wife of a veteran rep at Europa Sports, my heart cries. Our condolences go out to the entire Mcateer family. Along with a Heart Felt, Thank you for sharing your son, brother, and love of your life, with all of us. Beyond our friendship with Lin over the past 11 years, he has given so much to my family. By being a friend and mentor to my husband and myself, he taught all of us the true meaning of dedication, kindness, unbelievable work ethic, and TRUE humbleness. You have shared him with all of us, and for that all of our lives will forever be changed. The Europa Family is a unique close family, losing him is devastating and painful. Thank you for sharing the precious gift God Blessed you with. Lin shared a strong lesson in his life, and even in his passing. Family is the most important thing we can all possess. Let's not forget that, for Big Linnie Mac... The entire Jacobs family, ( Marc, April, Vanessa, Veronica, and Shayla)

Back in "the Day" Lin came to Winner's Gym with all the desire, hope and potential of any athlete who has ever opened a gym door; 20 plus years later he never lost that enthusiasum, determination, love and lifestyle developed and nutured through the years. I have witnessed many of thee fine "kids" grow up to be such great role models; none greater than Lin. We have lost a kindred brother. I pray for his familiy, this loss of a son, brother, uncle and our friend. God Bless you Lin.
Bob Gunn - 4/22/2008

I had the privelage of knowing lin 20 years, he always lit up every room he walked into, he was truly "one of the best", and I will miss him greatly. I walked outside at the arnold classis with Eric a few years back, and Lin was at the cab stand with his back facing us, and I said to Eric, "whose that freak, is he competing...He said "dude thats Lin"

When I think about the kind of man that I hope to become, I don't have to look much further than big Lin. He touched all of our lives in such a profound way, and he was the sweetest, humblest and most sincere person I've known. Knowing him for the past 6 years has truly been a blessing, and he will be greatly missed.
Michael Gargiulo - 4/22/2008

I feel like I can speak for everyone in Fresno when I say this, when Lin spoke or emailed, you payed attention and wanted to know what was being said. When I met Lin I already felt like he was a fried. He listened to everything you said and would go out of his way for you. It was a true blessing meeting him and the few conversations we had I value every second of them. A true gentleman and one of the most genuine people I have ever met. God bless. Lin, your family and everyone that knew you are in my prayers.

Big Lin... The first time I saw this man, all I could think was, "Wow! A walking mountain." To say I was intimidate would be a huge understatement. Then he spoke... The hardness of his physique was softened by the caring words, beaming smile, genuine interest that he had in our conversation. Lin was the type of friend and man that does not come along very often. He will be deeply missed. God must have needed a bigger angel...
nathan kircher - 4/22/2008

To all that knew Lin-please know that he loved life and everyone that crossed his path. He was the the love of my life and loved me more than you could imagine! It brings me comfort to read all the kind words of Lin. God bless you all and tell your loved one's exactly how you feel about them because tomorrow they may be gone!
Tricia "McAteer" - 4/22/2008

It is rare that I am at a loss for words, but none seem to befit the man I knew as Linny Mac. I was lucky enough to know Lin for quite a while... Lin and I played football against each other in high school. We competed in the same bodybuilding contest in 1995. On more than one instance in the gym, he pushed me while training beyond what I ever imagined possible. I admired him for the humble man he was, and I hate I never told him how much... the world lost a truly good soul yesterday. Rest in peace, Linny Mac...
Brad Cain aka LODI - 4/22/2008

I met Lin at my first show in 95 and got to be around him several events. He stands out as one of the nicest and most humble guys I have ever met. My thought and prayers go out to friends and family.

I can't even begin to put into words how great a man Lin was. I was lucky enough to have met him when I began my career at Europa almost 6 years ago. He had a way of making everyone comfortable around him because he genuinely cared about you and what you had to say. He taught me what a great company I work for and his loyalty to Jeff and Eric is something I greatly admired. Our Sales team has lost a great Role Model, Europa has lost a family member, and the world has truly lost a great man. My deepest condolences go out to Lin's family and I am so sorry for your loss. Linny Mac, We love you and you will never be forgotten.

I have known Lin since High School and he was always a positive and encouraging person to be around. As many have said - he made no enemies - only friends. My heart aches not only for the loss of a friend but also for his family and and those that were close to him in his heart. We love you Lin and we will miss you always.
Jenni Sidden - 4/22/2008

I knew Lin from as far back as the Kings Gym days. More recently I would see and talk to him at the Peak on Highway 51. Without question, I was "blessed" for knowing Lin and I will miss his great smile and wonderful personality. No matter how hard he was training he always had time to speak to me. He was a very rare individual who I know is in heaven right now. We shared our faith on many occasions in the gym and I know without question he is where I want to be when my time is up. My deepest sympathies to Lin's wife and his entire family. I will be praying for you in the coming days. God blessings for you always.

I don't know where to go from here. Lin was the only person in this industry who I can say he was a true freind and unique person to know. There will be no other Lin McAteer! My dog Xena past away last month and Lin was the First person to call me. It was maybe minutes and Lin was on my phone. Lin, I hope you and Xena are hanging out. She loved that big head to lick when you came in town. You will always be remebered in my heart and mind. To your family, there is only ONE Lin and thank you for letting us get to know such a great person! I will always miss you my Brother! Your Freind, Lou....

I talked to Big Lin 2 weeks ago and he asked when was I going to do another show. I told him I feel like I lost my heart and did not think I could do it anymore. He said "lost your hear, don't ever lose your heart, I would lose my leg my arm and even my pec but I will never lose my heart." His heart will always survive. I am so honored to have none him. Thank you for always treating me like one of your best friend when I saw you.

Lin was a very sincere and caring person. His sincerity always reflected in his countenance. Often when I would see Lin, he smiled and expressed concerns regarding my family and especially after my Dad, Willie Edwards (Edwards Fitness Zone) had passed. I often find comfort and understanding from God's word found in Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2. On behalf of my family, our prayers for God's peace and strength be with the McAteer family. 2 Corinthians: 5. Sincerely and with deepest sympathy, Amy Edwards Dameron
Amy Edwards Dameron - 4/22/2008

I could count on Lin to call and just say "hello" every 3 or 4 weeks. He most often wanted to know how my daughter Karsyn was doing as he knew how much she meant to me. That to me speaks volumes about who Lin truley is. God bless Lin and everyone who his life touched.
Chad Bryant - 4/22/2008

The greatest compliment I can pay Lynn McAteer is that he always treated me with respect. He was the same guy every time you spoke with him. He was always nice, friendly, and couteous. He encouraged me in many areas of my life, and was always willing to offer advice. Sometimes you don't realize how much a person meant to you until their gone. Lynn will truly be missed. I had the pleasure of taking calls from Lin here quite often at Supplement Depot . But our conversations were mostly outside the business of supplements as I do not handle ordering product for the store . Lin loved the fact that I have an extensive involement in the martial arts as he said he would have always liked to have trained in and joked about visiting Atlanta for one of our academies workshops to give it a try . His sincerity in wishing me well on attaining an instructors ranking was as with everything he said to anyone , heartfelt . It was with this in mind that I purposfully went to class on Mon evening , having just learned of Lin's tragic death ,to teach and share what I loved with others . In respect to someone I was privalaged to call my friend I honor Lin's memory by giving to others as he did from the heart .

Me knowing Lin goes way back! I was Lin's babysitter. I have such precious memories of Lin even as a little boy. Unfortunately, we grew up, Lin didn't need a babysitter anymore and I had to get a real job! Often I would run into Lin and he always had a huge smile on his face and open arms for a bear hug! Lin, you are now with your Dad "Big Ed". You leave behind a great family and tons of friends who love you so much! I am so proud of you for being such a wonderful man. I Love You Lin and will miss you!

Lin was a kind, sweet boy all of his life -- just like his father, Eddie. This is such a terrible loss for our church, our community, our friendship circle and that wonderful family. It simply doesn't get any sadder than this.
Larry Small - 4/22/2008

Before my first day at Europa I was Given a piece of advice by fellow Europa employee Nick Lacaria. He said there are two people that should be addressed as "SIR"...David Lee and Lin McAteer. Throughout that night Nick constantly tested my memory on those 2 names to make sure I knew who they were when I started. After my first conversation w/ Big Lin I knew exactly why that advice was given. Not because he demanded it, but because he DESERVED it. Thank you for your caring advice, contagious personality, and giving me the privilege to know you, and call you "SIR". My heart goes out to the entire McAteer family.

My family is still in shock over Lin's accident. Our hearts go out to his family. I have known Lin for 20+ years and I have never met anyone with the heart, drive and dedication he had. Lin always went out of his way to say hey and treated everyone as an equal. I use to think how could someone of his size be so modest and caring about other people? (That's just Lin.) Lin was one of those rare people that everyone he met was drawn to him. Lin loved his family more than life itself and always put them first. He once told me that everything he had meant nothing and could be gone in a snap. He said family is where his heart is. I quote "I would give it all up for 5 minutes with my dad" In 2003 my son Chris (15) had always heard his mom and I talk about Big Lin and he asks one day if he could meet him. We mentioned this to Lin and he said of corse bring him by and tell him to have his workout gear. He and Lin trained every Friday and Chris would come home on cloud nine with a piece of advice Lin had given him. He would ask Chris "How many people do you think are training legs on a Friday night? This is what gives us the edge over others, when everyone else is partying we are growing". When Chris turned 16 Lin told him to come over anytime he wanted to and take his hummer out on the town. When Chris has his first prom Lin slipped a 100 dollar bill in his pocket and told him to have a good time. Men like this just don't come along offen. Big Lin has impacted more people than he will ever know. He is an icon and role model and always will be. My family loves you brother and you will never be forgotten. William, Lynn and Chris Murray
William Murray - 4/22/2008

Although I didn't know Lin personally, my son Michael worked with him in Charlotte and through him I felt as if I had known Lin, always hearing what a wonderful person he was. I know he will be missed by everyone. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Lin was not only a friend, a brother, god father of our children, he was above all a man of God and knew the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was never as concerned with himself as he was with all those around him. He loved his family and friends with all his heart. He was a true man of compassion. Even though we will miss him severly we know that Jesus welcomed him with open arms and love when he came home last night. Our support and our prayer are with Tricia, Jane, Bray, Julie, Ace and the rest of the McAteer family. "John 14:14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 "And where I go you know, and the way you know."
Pastor Tim Thornton and Family - 4/22/2008

The loss we have all sustained is immeasurable. Lin touched many lives and was an inspiration to many of us. He was one of the first people I had the pleasure of meeting when I started working at Europa. At first I couldn't help but be intimidated by his stature and presence. With a handshake and introduction that immediately changed. He was friendly and genuinely welcomed me to the team. It was an honor to have him take the time to invite me to the Europa Sports family. I'm certain he graced everyone with the same respect and sincerity. Without even trying, he immediately made you feel as if you'd known him for years and that you could count on him without question. And that was all within mere moments of meeting him over 8 years ago. I even consider myself lucky enough to have had the honor of working next to Lin here at Europa. It was impressive and inspiring to say the least. Every call sounded as if he was talking to a close friend or relative. Every interaction was always honest, sincere and he was always eager to help. The few projects we worked on together were no different. I find it easy to say that Lin was one of a kind. At no time did I see the smile leave his face. I'm certain his influence has reached far past just those who've been fortunate enough to meet him in person. He is defiantly someone who has touched many lives and will be remembered forever. What I have learned from Lin I will hold forever. My thoughts and prayers go out to all that were blessed and honored to have met the man known as "Linny Mac".
Marcus Hermens - 4/22/2008

As I sit here pondering what to write I am reminded of three little words Lin said to me 14 years ago. Those words changed my life. Lin is the reason for my happiness and love that i share with such a wonderful man, my husband. As everyone has written Lin was truly a man, kid at the time he changed my life, that truly wants everyone to be as happy and content with the little things as he was. I know that he is with our precious Lord still watching over all of his loved ones. My prayers and thoughts will remain with you and your family. He will be desperately missed but will NOT be forgotten!!

After getting a call from Tres, I pulled up the Europa website and read the news five times, each time hoping it wasn't really there. I worked at ESP with Lin for almost three years, and I can tell you his heart was twice as big as he was!! Always with words of hope, asked you how were doing and meant it, always looked after everyone else's needs before his. My prayers are with Eric, Jeff, Robbie and the rest of ESP and with Lin's family and friends. Love you, bud and I'll see you when I get there!

As I look at all the messages of condolence left on this website, it makes the saying really ring true that our lives can only be measured by the impact we have on the lives around us... That has never been more true than now. Lin has truly touched so many lives and left such a good feeling with us all. Let's remember him as he was and how he made us all feel to be around him. My deepest condolenses go out to the McAteer family at this time. Lin was such a special man to myself and my father Freddie for so many years. He was an inspiration to us both with his warm smile and loving nature. He will be greatly missed at Winner's Gym. We will keep him in our hearts forever. The sport of bodybuilding will never be the same.

For the last 10 years, Lin was not just my sales rep - he was my friend. He never called to place our order without asking first about me, my family, or our gym. I can remember several times when his calls turned into "counsel sessions", listening to me about work or relating his personal experiences to mine in an effort to somehow help! But, he really did care. I especially remember stories about his family. You could tell how much he cherished them. He shared with me about losing his Dad when I was greiving from the loss of my grandmother. And how he moved to be closer to his Mom. I was touched by how such a big, strong guy could be so kind and sensitive. But he was - and it was GENUINE. Our thoughts are prayers are with your family. Lin will truly be missed! Sincerely, Angie Hitchens; 180 Fitness - Statesboro, GA

Lin was the first email that I received almost 3 years ago on my first day at BSN. What saddens me the most is that although we worked well together,we never had the chance to spend a lot if time. Been a husband and a father, this news only make cherish my family and friends more. My family will be praying for all of his family and friends, our deepest condolences. I will deeply miss you big man!!!

We left a message yesterday. But, we were somewhat shocked and at a loss as what to write. Thinking about Lin's passing even more today, there was something else we thought we would share. Just late friday afternoon my husband & I were on speaker phone with Lin. We talked about a lot...his 40th b-day coming up, and my husband and him talked about their aches, pains, & several surgery stories. All probably from the years of hard training. And, Lin told us someone asked him if he knew what he knew today what he know, would he change the way he did things. Lin said he would not change a thing. And, if he had known he probably would have trained harder and more. He said, "I would rather live 40 years as a lion than 80 years as a lamb." We laughed and hung up the phone in a good mood as we had done so many times before. Not realizing Lin would be gone just a few days later. But, we thought... Lin hit the nail on the head. He lived as a LION.

It is with with deep sadness that I write to you today. I am heart-broken for all of you. Lin McAteer and I became part of the Europa family in the same year. I met him shortly after meeting Eric Hillman and Jeff Compton. He along with his pal David Lee, were exactly the images I expected to see standing beside Eric and Jeff. Daunting silouettes, respectful, with a quiet strength that has come to epitomize the company that Lin helped build into the empire it is today. A company based not on greed, but on putting others first, a genuine concern for its fellows, and a proven promise that if you do what's right, it will come back to you. If you think about all the wonderful elements that make that house so special, Lin McAteer was the embodiment of those things. Lin left this world as he lived it; thinking of someone other than himself. It is with great humility that I call myself a man in the light of one such as him. This past February upon arriving in Charlotte for the Europa Sales Conference Weekend, I was anxious to speak to Lin about a matter that might effect him directly in his territory. As sometimes happens in business, situations aren't always perfect and I wanted to assure him that I would do anything to protect his interests. You see, in all the years I'd known him I had never disappointed Lin before that I knew of, and though it was a situation no one could have controlled, I was not happy about the prospect. After explaining the situation to him, Lin looked at me and said, "Don't worry Joe, its ok...I know who you are." Of course coupled with the fact that Lin was so well loved by those he dealt with that nothing could rattle that cage anyway. But that recognition, from a man whom I have had that much respect for so long, will always stand as one of the stones in the foundation of my life; the idea that maybe I wasn't such a bad guy and that perhaps the choices I made in my life were the right ones. Only men like Lin can tell you that. I am a better man for having met Lin -and I will never forget. For Lin's family and for his extended Europa family, I am so very sorry. Love each other with everything you have. Say what you need to say to everyone who is important to you, and say it often. Until you see Lin again. Respectfully, Joe Babick

Lin "took care of me" for many many years. He always had time for questions, give advice, or just ask "How's the weather at the beach?" Lin will be truly missed by all whose lives he touched, and he touched lives the minute you met him. True "good guys" are rare today. Lin was the best. The whole bodybuilding / fitness community will miss you Lin. You took care of us, now may the Lord take care of you. Our thoughts and prayers from Fitness First / Beach Better Bodies in Virginia Beach are with you and your family. God Bless you Lin.

When I first started in sales over 6 years ago and went out to Charlotte to train to become a rep, It was Big Lin That took me under his wing and and immediately made me feel like I was becoming part of something really special...for that week we trained together, ate together and I had the priviledge of sitting with him and watching him work, listening to his sincerity and genuine good heartedness toward every single one of his customers. I knew right then and there excactly what kind of sales rep I wanted to be and I have always used Lin as a role model for for the kind of person I should emulate and I think every one of us is a better person for having known him. God Bless you Big Lin..You were the best of us all.

Lin taught me everything I know today about supplements and how to treat customers. Lin was Europa. He made me a better person. There will always be a reserved seat at our bodybuilding show every year in his honor. We will all miss him very much.

Lin is one of those people you meet once in a lifetime. Anytime we ever spoke, the first words out of his mouth were "how you doin, is everything alright". It was kind of like having a big brother. Words can't describe what a great person he was. You could say that Lin never met a stranger, he made everyone feel like you were his best friend. I've known Lin for 15 years and I will miss him a lot. It feels like part of you is missing when you lose a friend like Lin. But if you know Lin he'd be telling us all to get back to work or "hey man, things could be a whole lot worse". Lin you are truely loved by everyone and will be missed a lot.

Big Lin you will truly be missed by me. I will truly miss you coming into the gym early in the mornings. Every time that I was tired in the mornings I could always say a few words to you and it would pick me back up again. I still remember the first time I met big Lin, it was after the Alamance County bodybuilding show five years ago. I was just getting into bodybuilding and he told me that if there was anything he could do for me to help me out to let him know. Big Lin has always beeen a big inspiration to me and I will always miss his big smiles and conversations that we had. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

It was such a pleasure to have known such a great person and friend as Lin for the past 16 years. We can only hope our son grows up to be as thoughtful, helpful and caring of others as he was. May God bless you Lin. You will be missed by all who knew you.

Lin, I beleive this poem By John Walter Wayland was written specifically for you. You were and are a "True Gentleman." I am honored to have gotten the opportunity to meet you. You will be missed...... "The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe."

After reading everyones, I thought I'd share. It tears me up to say goodbye to Linny Mac... Re: RIP - Lin McAteer - Europa Sport's Georgia rep « Reply #34 on: Today at 10:51:14 AM » Quote Modify Remove -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Europa is my family, we lost a brother..... Every sales rep at Europa are equal but everyone still looks up to someone...or even multiple people.....Lin was in everyone's top 3....and by far the most genuine.....everyone always says, "how ya doing? Or "what's going on" ....difference is, Lin meant it....he really wanted to know...he barley talk about himself if ever but wanted to know all the good in others...never was he to busy to listen to what you had to say...he trained like know other....Lin was a true Juggernaut in the gym...the gym gods worshipped him. ...he also never ran out of smiles.....he had one for everyone no matter what the day had done to him He was the blueprint of what Eric and Jeff wanted when starting Europa........we are all just copies....he was the original. Linny Mac, we are all loved you and are going to miss you! See you on the other side. Dax

LIN & I WENT TO SCHOOL TOGETHER AND I CAN STILL REMEMBER HOW CARING AND GENUINE HE WAS THEN AND THROUGHOUT THE YEARS WHENEVER WE WOULD SEE EACH OTHER. I, LIKE SOME OTHERS, PROBABLY HAVE NOT LIVED THE BEST I COULD, BUT LIN NEVER SHOWED ANY DIFFERENT ATTITUDE OR OPINION TOWARDS ME OR ANYONE ELSE. HE WAS ALWAYS SO KIND AND ATTENTIVE. HE IS TRULY SOMEBODY I LOOKED AND STILL LOOK UP TO AND DARE TO SAY HE WAS THE MODEL OF WHAT A REAL MAN WAS. I CAN NOT IMAGINE ANYONE TO COMPARE HIM TO. HE MADE YOU WANT TO BE A BETTER PERSON, THAT IS THE BEST WAY I CAN DESCRIBE HIM. I AM THANKFUL TO HACVE KNOWN HIM.

Lin was my sales rep for about the last five years. Even though I had never personally met Lin, we had become good friends through phone conversation. Whenever I placed an order and talked directly to him he always had time to chat. We shared a love for the beach and he told me how much he enjoyed spending relaxing weekends at the beach. In talking with him, he was always so friendly and humble, you would never have known he was a man of such stature. Recently I had shared with him a book I was reading called THE SECRET and he had mentioned he would read the book and we had planned to discuss it afterward. It was obvious Lin already knew THE SECRET. I wish that I had had the opportunity to have met him personally. I know the energy of his spirit will continue to touch people's lives that knew him. The outpouring of love that I have witnessed over the past 2 days and read here as everyone leaves their condolences is a true testiment to the wonderful man we have all come to know and love. The "gentle giant" I knicknamed him the first day I met him 6 1/2 years ago. Lin was one of a kind, a true gem with the kindest of hearts and the deepest of souls. God has a very special angel in heaven now.....may we all follow the way Lin lived is life; full of spirit, compassion and humility. Gob Bless you Linny Mac. You will be forever in our thoughts.

When I first saw Lin in the gym 8 years ago, I said to myself "Damn, now that's a big dude" I did not know Lin well, but I had the opportunity to speak with him a few times and he helped steer me in the right direction for a couple shows. The one thing about the guy, is there was never a time I looked over and he didn't have a smile on his face. I just heard of this today. The one conclusion I think we can all learn from this, is do whatever it is that makes you the happiest in life, and do it with a smile, just like Big Lin. RIP bro

Lin made a difference in everyone's life he touched. I remember him at age 17 coming in Winner's Gym at 165 pounds! We trained off and on for 20 years and he became a very dear friend in that time. He always had time for any and everyone who needed him. Lin, you will be missed by so many. May God welcome you home, my Friend.

I knew Lin from Kings Gym in the mid to late 90's when I worked out there. One of the nicest guys you would ever meet. If everyone had his atitude, the world would be a better place!

To all of Lin's family and friends at Europa Sports: Our thoughts and prayers will be with you in this time of loss. Lin was one of our favorite reps, truly one of a kind. It is hard not to shed a tear uponing hearing how he touched so many peoples lives including ours. One thing I learned from Lin besides my work out routine is The Golden Rule: All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must likewise do to them.(Matthew 7:12).He truly treated us like Gold! If only everyone followed this advice the world would be a much better place. We will miss you My Man!

I remember when Lin came to Winners Gym as a young boy; he had quit the football team to become a body builder. Lin was inspired by a lot of us older guys in the gym and it wasnt very long until we were all inspired by Lin... Lin always had something encouraging and uplifting to say, the kind of thing that keeps a 60 year old man like me in the gym. My heart is just broken and I will always miss his strength, gentleness and that always smiling face. My thoughts, love and prayers are with the McAteer family. Freddie Slade
